Lent

Christ’s faithful are obliged by divine law, each in his or
her own way, to do penance. However, so that all may be
joined together in a certain common practice of penance,
days of penance are prescribed. On these days, the faithful
are in a special manner to devote themselves to prayer,
to engage in works of piety and charity, and to deny themselves,
by fulfilling their obligations more faithfully and
especially by observing...fast and abstinence… (Canon 1249).

The traditional Catholic will give up something for Lent. I traditionally give up Mountain Dew for the 6 weeks of Lent. This year along with Mountain Dew, I'm giving up eating out for lunch at work. I feel that this will be much harder than giving Dew has been in the past. Fast Days are Ash Wednesday, Friday's until Easter. Brawler is giving up his Wii. It's the 3rd or 4th year he's given up his video games for Lent.
